A patented “in-tip” detection method allows users to simply pipette a 2 µl sample and place the pipette, tip and all, directly into the Picodrop spectrophotometer for analysis. No need to expel the contents onto the instrument or into a cuvette or capillary. And after the 3 second read time, simply return to the sample for 100% recovery. No cross-contamination and no loss of sample.

The key to this advance is manufacturing a pipette tip with a polymer invisible to the instrument’s working range of wavelengths between 230 nm and 850 nm. Unlike conventional plastics, the UVpette tips allow the transmission of UV light down to 230 nm thereby making the system a great choice for DNA, RNA and protein studies.

Because the Picodrop detects the sample while in the pipette tip, there is no need for repeated cleaning of the detection surface. Proteinaceous build is never a problem. And while other microliter droplet systems can come out of calibration as the spring-loaded cover slowly migrates over time, this is never the case with the Picodrop, which does not require maintenance contracts or physical re-calibration. The Picodrop is as accurate, sensitive and easy to use the 1st day as it is the 1001st day after installation.

 

State of the art software

Through a friendly and intuitive user interface you can easily switch between protocols for nucleic acids, proteins and microarrays. The software automatically calculates all the values required including concentration, purity ratios and dye concentrations. Each sample can be given a unique reference and resulting data stored to your personal directory in MS Excel format, for later analysis. The choice of using the customized EXCEL electronic pipette or the manual Gilson P10 pipette, ensures you can maximize throughput without compromising reproducibility or quality of results.
