The science of mixology

Your samples will never know what shook them
To say that BioShake Plate Mixers are whisper quiet is not an overstatement. These devices are intended to shake tubes only and mix their contents – not vibrate the entire lab bench or robotic deck. A large part of the noise reduction is derived from a patented dampening system that relies upon ingenious counter-weight symmetry. Your eyes will see a blur, but your ears won’t believe it.
BioShake ThermoMixers deliver outstanding thermal heating performance. Reduced mass sample blocks provide for quick heating and accurate temperature control across the entire block. This image shows a U-bottom 96-well plate being incubated at 77°C. At steady state, the entire range of temperature over the 7 spot measurements indicated, vary between 76.1°C and 78.1°C.
Utilizing a quick change sample block design, the BioShake iQ can accept microfuge tubes (0.2, 0.5, 1.5 and 2.0 ml), glass vials (2 ml and 4 ml) and microplates (96-, 384- and 1536-well microplates of deep-well, v-well and u-well shape).
BioShake Plate Mixers have an orbit diameter of 2mm and a maximum shaking frequency of 3,000 rpm, allowing any model to easily mix standard and low volume samples in 96-, 384- and 1536-well plates. This provides researchers with the confidence that every well, even with the most dense plates, will be adequately stirred.
Indicated above is the required mixing speeds [rpm] on BioShake Plate Mixers for different micro plates depending on the percentage of “filling” volume in each well.
12 µl aqueous samples were mixed in a 384-well flat bottomed microplate on the BioShake XP. Outlined in yellow, 1700 rpm is the slowest speed needed to initiate mixing of such a small volume. Outlined green, 2900 rpm is the speed required to provide maximal mixing as measured by the apex of the wave front. Imaged using super slow-motion videography.
